2020 has been a year full of challenges. As a company with family and community woven into our fabric, we have been more committed to our team members and our community than ever before. As we reflect on the past nine months, we want to give a special thanks to everyone who supported us throughout the year.
School Supplies for Children
With schools all over the country adopting virtual learning to keep students and faculty safe, providing an efficient learning space for a child can be a major obstacle for any parent. This quick change sparked an immediate need for laptops and other school supplies for children to continue getting an education. To help our team members cope with this challenge, we donated 27 laptops and 4 tablets to help with the sudden shift away from the classroom. We believe nothing is a better investment for our children than a good education.
Fuel for a Cure
During the month of October, we had a month-long fundraiser to support breast cancer research. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to discovering advances in preventing and curing breast cancer. One in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, making it the most common cancer among women in the country. Since BCRF was founded in 1993, the nonprofit raised more than $500 million, and has supported scientists involved in every major advance in breast cancer research. We did our small part in contributing to this great cause by matching all donations up to $50, raising a total of $5,350. With this, we were able to fund 106 hours of research!
Toys for Tots
This year was our 9th annual Toys for Tots donation drive. Toys for Tots is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide a glimmer of hope for less fortunate children on Christmas. With the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, Toys for Tots provides new unwrapped toys to children in need. Although there were challenges due to COVID-19, we were able to collect $9,000 worth of toys from our employees, business partners, and the community. In previous years, we matched each donation 100%, but to help with the need of 2020, we shopped for and donated an additional $20,000 worth of toys. That’s a match of over 220%!
With the challenges of 2020, we felt inclined to go above and beyond for our employees and the community. We want to give a special thanks to everyone who contributed, especially during this unprecedented time. Eventually, our new normal will be a thing of the past, and we will once again be able to reunite with our friends and family to celebrate.
